Top Ten most collectalbe items

Top Ten Collectable Items

Collectable items are getting more and more popular with people as they can bring in big returns especially with rare items or items that have been signed by famous or historic figures like Winston Churchill or Michael Jackson. Just remember another man’s junk is another man’s gold.
Here are my top ten collectable items.

1.       Old Stamps
Stamps have been very popular with collectors for many years now as there are very many rare stamps floating around, stamps were often used as currency many years ago which makes them interesting to collector’s. Limited edition stamps and mis-printed are the most desirable stamps to collect as only a certain amount of stamps were printed, one of the rarest stamps is  The Swedish 'Treskilling Yellow' as it was mis-printed in 1855 and sold for £1.59 million in 1996 and is pictured below.

2.       Coins
Coin collecting has been a hobby for many years now and some of the rare coins are quite often worth a lot more than their face value and even more so if they were made with a valuable metal like gold. Coins made of gold can be worth thousands of pounds depending on the year they were made, the weight of the coin and how many coins were put into circulation. One of the most expensive coins made is the Gold Minted Double Eagle which had a face value of 20 dollars in 1933 and the last coin that was found sold in auction for 6.6 million dollars.

3.       Coca Cola Collectables
Collectors today can find a flood of Coke memorabilia and collectibles—part of these items’ genius in the first place was their durability and usability. To pick one example among many, Coca-Cola thermometers served a practical purpose that helped ensure a long promotional life. This set them apart from the posters and other advertisements that most store owners would routinely discard. As the decades passed and popular styles changed, so did the design of these thermometers. Some in the 1940s, for example, featured an Art Deco-inspired design.
Coke bottles, too, evolved over the decades, from a non-standardized hodgepodge of improvised glassware in the early 20th century to the now-classic curved shape known as the “Mae West” or “hobbleskirt” bottle, which was patented in November 1915 after a two-year contest to find the perfect design. Then as now, consumers instantly associate the shape with the Coca-Cola brand. The most expensive Coca Cola bottle today is the Weldon which was manufactured in Weldon, North Carolin which is where it got its name from.

4.       Antique Guns
Guns have always been very collectable as they have played an important part in our history and they are sought after by collector’s mainly for their historical relevance. Guns come in all shapes and sizes but the most collectable ones are usually ones that were owned by famous people or were used in famous battles. One of the most expensive antique guns ever sold was a Cased Colt Texas Paterson Revolver which was owned by a Texas Ranger called Sam Wilson which sold at auction for 970,000 dollars.

5.       Sports Memorabilia
Major sporting events are remembered for years or even decades after they  were played like when England won the World Cup in 1966 or when the first Super Bowl took place and the items that were used in those games have become hugely collectable and if someone was lucky enough to have a ball signed by all of the players that won winning  game then it could be worth thousands. But when it comes to expensive sports memorabilia then Baseball is one of the all-time favourites for collectors with icons like Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner or Joe DiMagio and one of the most expensive sports memorabilia was Mark McGuire’s signed 70th home run baseball which fetched 3.3 million dollars at an auction in 1999.

6.       Antique Swords and Knives
Swords and knives collectors always turn their attention to acquiring rare swords, weapons of the past that are rich in stories of warfare and filled with extraordinary tales of heroism. These antique swords not only give us a chance to behold the artefacts of the past, but also a lens through which we can revisit the olden times. One of the most sort after swords is Napoleon's sword. This sword was actually used by Napoleon in his Egyptian campaign, and was based on his observation that the curved swords his Arab enemies used were better suited to beheading enemies. After the campaign he presented it to his brother as a wedding gift. The sword was sold at auction for $6.4 million, but only on the condition that it was sold to a French resident, and it must spend 6 months a year in France, since it's a national treasure.

7.       Antique Cameras
Old cameras have always been very collectable as people like to remember what these devices helped to capture in the past and the photos taken were able to preserve a bit of history. There have been many different makes of camera and they came in all shapes and sizes the most popular makes these days are Nikon, Canon and Sigma but one of the most expensive antique cameras ever sold was O-Series Leica No. 107 which sold for around £240,000 at auction

8.       Toys
Toys that children grew up with will never be forgotten and often when people have grown up all they want for Christmas is that toy they spent so many hours playing with as a child and will pay huge amounts to get one in mint condition. Popular collectable toys come in all shapes and sizes like teddy bears, toy cars, and action figures and if these are found in their original boxes and un-touched then these can be worth a lot of money. People have been taking collectable toys to the extreme and recently a Model Lamborghini Toy car was set to make 3 million pounds when it went to auction.

9.       Jewellery
Jewellery has always been an expensive accessory and the finest pieces are made with the fanciest of jewels. Jewellery made using the  Coloured diamonds fetch more attention than the regular white diamonds and one the most expensive pieces was this rare pink diamond ring has set a record of selling at $11.7 million at auction.

10.   War Memorabilia
There is a huge market for War Memorabilia and as there have been a few wars over the years there are tons of collectable items out there that people want. These items can vary greatly from old guns to uniforms even to the old planes and tanks that were used and the better the condition they are in the more valuable they become.
